Geothermal Test Well – Future Home of Lexington Fire Station #2

Moses Drilling Company was contracted to do a geothermal test bore for the future home of Lexington Fire Station #2. We drilled a 355′ deep well in about 2 hours. A 1″ loop was installed into the well and then backfilled with #9 stone with a 25′ bentonite cap to prevent surface contamination from entering down the well. Once the well was completed, we ran a conductivity test on the well to determine the conductivity of the bedrock.

Water Well Abandoning Project

Moses Drilling was contracted by Shield Environmental & Associates to abandon a water well. There had previously been a gas station on this site and the underground tanks had leaked. After several years of clean up monitoring the ground for remaining contaminants, the state required the water well to be abandoned to further protect the underground water aquifers. We grouted the water well with a bentonite grout and plugged the well from the bottom to the top with a 30% solids mixture. The casing was then removed per the state requirements and covered the remaining few inches of what had settled with native clays. Another successful project in the books!

Transylvania College – Student Dorm

Transylvania College is adding new student dorms and installing an energy efficient geothermal system. The students are really going to enjoy their stay at Transy with the new dorms and especially the geothermal heat and air units!

On this project, we drilled a 300′ geothermal test well, backfilled the well with thermally enhanced bentonite grout and finally we did a thermal conductivity analysis of the well. Once the results were in, we drilled (48) 305′ geothermal boreholes. We were able to complete the drilling in two weeks with only two drill rigs.

Bell Central School Center

We drilled (112) 405′ geothermal bore holes for this project. Geothermal Solutions did the manifolding and hookups.

Council of State Governments Building Renovation

This was a project for the Council of State Governments building renovation. We initially drilled (2) 300′ geothermal test wells and grouted the wells with thermally enhanced bentonite grout. We also performed a thermal conductivity test on one of the wells. A little bit later, we drilled the remainder of the well field, which consisted of (56) 300′ geothermal bore holes. Each well was grouted with thermally enhanced bentonite grout.

Commercial Bank – West Liberty, Ky.

We drilled (2) 300′ geothermal test wells for Commercial Bank in West Liberty, Ky. The holes were grouted with a thermally enhanced bentonite grout and a thermal conductivity test was performed on one of the wells.

Berea College – Knapp Hall

On this project for Berea College-Knapp Hall, we drilled (1) 350′ geothermal test well. Once the well was drilled and loop installed, we backfilled the well with a thermally enhanced bentonite grout. We also performed a thermal conductivity test on this geothermal test well.
